Great Yarmouth Air Show Cancelled For 2019

Cost Of The Event Cited As One Of The Reasons

The Great Yarmouth Air Show will not be returning in 2019.

The group organizing the event made the announcement Monday on Facebook. "Unfortunately we will not be holding an airshow in 2019 however we will be looking at options for the future we will keep you posted on this page," the post read.

The inaugural Great Yarmouth Air Show was held last year. The BBC reports that the event drew about 180,000 people and brought in revenue of about $197,000. But the cost to stage the show was estimated at $954,000.

The first event was to have been held in 2017, but was cancelled due to higher than anticipated costs, according to the report. The 2018 show featured the U.K. precision flying team The Red Arrows, but the team was forced to alter its flight path due to nesting shore birds.

All in all, the organizers said the 2018 event was a "success", but the cost was unsustainable. There was no charge for admission to the show, ans one commenter on Facebook said that if "everyone put a couple of quid in the buckets it wouldn't be cancelled this year!!!"
