Patients Have Medical Helicopter Bills Recalculated By Med Trans

New Agreement With Insurance Provider Greatly Reduces Debt For Some

At least three people who had five-digit balances with medical transportation company Med Trans in Virginia have had their debt either greatly reduced or eliminated due to a new agreement with a major insurance provider.

The patients saw their outstanding balances not covered by insurance cut to little or nothing after insurance company Anthem agreed to make Med Trans a network provider with the company. The deal was made in conjunction with Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, according to a blog on the Roanoke Times website.

The agreement was made retroactive to February, 2012, allowing the two patients with large outstanding bills to have their debt forgiven entirely. In a third, the bill was reduced to $648.

One of the patients had been paying $25 per month on a debt that reached five figures. A Med Trans representative told her that she was probably due a refund on those monthly payments she'd been making for more than a year.
