Two Fatally Injured In Phoenix, AZ Accident

Homebuilt Acroduster Went Down On A City Street Monday

A homebuilt Acroduster airplane went down on a city street near Deer Valley airport in Phoenix, AZ Monday, resulting in the fatal injury of the two people on board.

AZFamily.com reports that the two on board have been identified as pilot 54-year-old, Theodore Rich and 49-year-old Elaine Carpenter. Friends said that rich had just purchased the Acroduster on Saturday.

The plane went down just before 7:00 a.m. local time that was performing touch-and-go landings at the airport, according to airport officials. A witness, James Blake, said he heard the aircraft "sputtering" before the airplane went down.

Rich was the owner of Sportbike Performance Center in North Phoenix. He had purchased the Acroduster in California. Carpenter was a veterinary surgeon.

The aircraft reportedly impacted two vehicles on the road during the accident sequence, but no one on the ground was injured.
