Vertical Flight Society Announces 2023 Nikolsky Recipient

Airbus Avionics "Executive Expert" Serge Germanetti Chosen for Top Award

The Vertical Flight Society has announced Airbus’s Serge Germanetti as the next recipient of the 2023 Alexander A. Nikolsky Honorary Lectureship.

The Lectureship is awarded to “an individual who has a highly distinguished career in vertical flight aircraft research and development and is skilled at communicating technical knowledge and experience", a fine fit for the specialist. Germanetti is the Executive Expert for Avionics Systems in the Airbus Group, working as a technical advisor for the lineup of Airbus Helicopters. Germanetti's nomination comes due to his “many technical innovations in avionics that found their way into serial application all along his career path," as well as "his ability and motivation to communicate and share his vast knowledge and experience with the next generation of vertical flight engineers.”

His work at Airbus has seen him lead the development of avionics systems, architecture, and cockpit design for the spectrum of company aircraft, both civil and military. By now, Germanetti has garnered more than 40 years of experience in hardware, software, and system development in the international environment, having played a part in creating most every avionics system of Airbus helicopters.

Germanetti’s nomination lauded his many efforts at advancing the state of the industry, saying “Today, much of the avionics-related industrial progress at Airbus Helicopters, its knowledge pool, its operational and commercial successes, along with numerous avionics standards, specifications, and systems engineering processes have been made possible thanks to Serge's vision, efforts, and expertise.”
