ESA Has A New Member

Luxembourg In Spaaaaaace!

Luxembourg may be one of the smallest countries on Earth, but it now has a space program.  The tiny European nation has signed on as the 17th nation in the European Space Agency's consortium.

Cooperation between ESA and Luxembourg began with the signing of a dedicated agreement on September 12th, 2000, enabling Luxembourg to participate in the Agency's ARTES telecommunications program, according to an ESA statement to ANN.

An agreement confirming the accession of the Grand Duchy to the ESA Convention was first signed in 2004. It laid the basis for Luxembourg's accession to the ESA Convention by setting out practical measures such as the participation of Luxembourg observers at the meetings of ESA Council and other delegate bodies, and increased coordination on industrial policy matters.
