New York Helo Shuttle Service Grounded

U.S. Helicopter Says The 'Standown' Is 'Temporary'

A New York City helicopter shuttle service that ferried passengers from Manhattan to JFK and Liberty Airport in Newark has abruptly ceased operations, according to the Associated Press.

U.S. Helicopter announced the shutdown on its website Friday, saying it should be temporary.

"We are temporarily halting all service as we regroup to add aircraft to our fleet and introduce new routes," the statement reads. "This 'standown' of service applies to our scheduled flights as well as our charter service. We plan to return to the skies of New York - a bigger and better airline - by late November."

Tickets from Midtown to the airports had cost $159 dollars ... about four times a normal cab fare. But the flights took only about 8 minutes.

Company vice president Donal McSullivan told the New York Times that company is working to secure new financing and "getting our act together."
