Wahoo, NE Airport Cleared By FAA

Complaint Had Been Filed Against The Airport In 2012

The Wahoo, NE airport (KAHQ) has been cleared of charges that it violated federal obligations by the FAA in a dispute that dates back to 2012.

The Wahoo newspaper reports that the FAA sent a letter to Wahoo Airport Authority, Director of Airport Compliance and Management Analysis Kevin Willis indicting it was in compliance with all federal obligations.

In June 2012, an informal complaint was registered with the FAA by Walker Ag Supply, LLC, Midwest Spray Service, LLC and Better Airports, LLC.  The companies outlined 25 allegations, but the FAA found the airport to be in compliance in October 2012. A formal complaint was then filed in October 2014.

While the airport was found to be in compliance, there are concerns outline in the complaint that must be addressed, including maintaining a current airport layout plan, updating spill prevention and control, and giving aerial applicators the right to lease hangar space. The airport must also ensure that non-aviation activities be kept to a minimum, and remove a "right of first refusal" for ag hangar leases.

Airport officials told the paper they are reviewing the letter before taking any action. They have 30 days to appeal the decision, according to the document.
