Commuter Plane Down In Lagos, Sixteen Fatally Injured

Was Carrying The Remains Of A Local Official And His Family To A Funeral

A 30-seat Embraer 120 airplane has reportedly gone down in Lagos, Nigeria, resulting in the fatal injury of 16 people.

According to local media, the airplane was transporting the body of a former regional governor and his family to a funeral. Reuters reports that one of its reporters saw first responders remove a coffin from the wreckage.

The airplane, operated by Nigeria's Associated Airlines, went down shortly after takeoff from Lagos airport. It impacted the ground near an aviation fuel depot close to the airport.

A witness told Reuters that it was "making a lot of noise" before it impacted the ground.

Four people reportedly survived the accident. Embraer said it will assist in the investigation of the accident.
