Thieves Steal College Students' Prize-Winning Project

Truck, Trailer Containing Radio-Controlled Aircraft Stolen From Hotel Parking Lot

A group of engineering students from Cal State Northridge in California traveled to Fort Worth TX last weekend to participate in an engineering competition, and their radio-controlled airplane "The Dragon" won second place overall.

But before they could return to California to celebrate, a trailer containing the aircraft and the truck that pulled it had been stolen from their hotel parking lot.

Television station KDFW reports that surveillance video from the hotel shows the thief driving off in the pickup truck with the trailer in tow. The airplane is valued at about $15,000, not counting the man-hours that went into its design and manufacture.

To add insult to injury, the truck was borrowed from one of the student's father, and the trailer was lent by the same student's sister. The students were stranded in Texas after the truck was stolen.

The university technically owns the plane, and has been notified, according to the report. Police are investigating.
