Missing Plane Found Near PLU

Piper Dakota Lost Since December 6

A search for a missing aircraft in Washington state is over when the plane, pilot and his dog were found down near Puyallup, according to the Associated Press.

The State of Washington Division of Aviation says they found the wreckage of the Piper Dakota PA-28-236, along with the bodies of Thomas Maxwell and his dog in the wreckage southeast of Thun Field (PLU) Friday afternoon.

Maxwell, 78, was seen December 6, after a flight lesson when he took off from Crest Airpark (S36) in Kent, where he had flown to drop off his flight instructor after a lesson. Maxwell was thought to be flying back to Thun Field in Puyallup, but never arrived.

Searchers in the air and on the ground had been focusing in the area based on radar data of his flight path.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
