Two Refurbished Birds To Start, Options For Six More
Bell Aerospace Services business unit US Helicopter announced
Thursday at Heli-Expo 2007 a contract award from the US Army for
two Huey II aircraft for Kazakhstan, with an option for six
additional aircraft. US Helicopter will complete all aircraft
refurbishment, modification, and flight test at its Ozark, AL
facility.
Bell representatives tell ANN these Huey II aircraft will play a
critical role in developing the capability to protect their country
against drugs and crime. The Kazakhstan Air Mobilization Force will
begin operating the aircraft in 2007.
The Huey II upgrade starts with an existing Bell UH-1H
helicopter, and adds a more powerful engine, along with new dynamic
components, and new tailboom. In addition, there is a new
digital communication / navigation suite, special mission systems,
and total rewiring. The Huey II upgrade yields a significant
performance increase and extends the helo's service life by 20
years.
"The Huey II is just another example of how the proud legacy of
the Huey continues to live on," explained Michael Prieto, president
of BellAero. "It is an honor and privilege for the Huey II
Team to play a role in supporting this important Kazakhstan
operation." The Huey II Team, lead by BellAero, includes Bell
Helicopter and Honeywell.
Bell Aerospace Services provides turnkey aviation maintenance
and support services throughout the world. In June 2005, BellAero
acquired US Helicopter, a maintenance and modification center for
H-1 helicopters in the world.
