NBAA '04: Embraer Legacy Certified For LCY

Brazilian corporate bizjet largest allowed to operate at London City Airport

Embraer announced Monday at the NBAA 2004 Convention that the Legacy executive jet has received authorization to operate at London City Airport (LCY). The Legacy is the largest corporate aircraft in terms of cabin size to operate at LCY.

Located at the center of the British capital city, LCY is a favorite facility for business passengers, as it is located very close to London's financial district. Flying into LCY is also preferred due to its low volume of commercial traffic, contrasting dramatically with Heathrow and Gatwick. Additionally, departures from LCY extends the Legacy's reach to destinations such as Moscow, Cairo and the Azores, with 8 passengers at the normal cruise speed.

Authorization to fly from LCY was granted following certification of the Legacy's steep approach capability and the addition of the First Principles software. This software was fully developed in-house and helps the pilot calculate the aircraft's takeoff weight more accurately. In airports with short runways like LCY, this feature will bring significant performance gains to current and future owners.
