Cessna's Plans For NextGen Aircraft

What's The Single-Engine Piston Market Looking For?

Working diligently to update its product line, Cessna executives said Tuesday they plan to add a "brand-new, next-generation" single-engine piston aircraft to their line, according to a report in the Wichita Eagle. The company also indicated it will introduce a new aircraft -- a derivative of an existing model -- at AOPA Expo in Tampa next month.

"We are committed to maintaining leadership in the single-engine piston field," Cessna spokesman Dick Ziegler told the Eagle. "We're taking a look at what the market's demanding. We need to stay competitive."

What Cessna is sure of is that the new aircraft will feature improvements in safety, economics, comfort and performance executives told its dealers at a meeting last week. What they don't know yet is what it will look like.

"We have made no decision -- and I can't stress that enough -- on how the airplane will look, what specifications it will meet or what timetable we'll look at for production," Ziegler said.
