Jason Herman Completes CAM Program

The NBAA's Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) program reached a significant milestone this month when Jason Herman, a captain with Latitude 33 Aviation of Carlsbad, CA, became the 300th aviation professional to earn CAM certification.

Herman, 24, decided to pursue his CAM certification to supplement his experience as a dispatcher, flight instructor and professional pilot.
 
“I've gained experience in several different areas within business aviation, and I thought the CAM credential would be a great way to expand my knowledge base across the various disciplines and refine my leadership skills,” Herman said. "I used earning the CAM designation as a way to supplement my current experience and gain new skill sets, which I hope to utilize and continue developing as my career progresses.”
 
Launched in 2003, NBAA's CAM program continues to gain momentum, and is recognized as the gold standard in industry-sponsored aviation management certification programs. The program welcomed its 200th CAM in April 2013, and needed just 20 months before reaching 250 members in December 2014. Just 10 months later, the roster of CAMs has hit the 300-member mark.

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen noted the program’s success is a testament to the Association’s strong commitment to professional development.
 
“Our Members have embraced ongoing education as a key to propelling business aviation forward while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism,” Bolen said. “The Certified Aviation Manager program is a central part of NBAA’s efforts to provide opportunities for aviation professionals to excel and strengthen our industry in the process."
 
The CAM credential provides a clear standard for preparation and achievement in aviation management. The CAM program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, and is the first program in the aviation industry to receive this recognition. The CAM exam is available throughout the year in a computer-based testing format. To be eligible for the exam, participants must be pre-qualified and approved through a formal application process. The CAM program has been approved as a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) License and Certification site. Veterans who have tested to become CAMs since Sept. 30, 2014, may apply for GI Bill education benefits, and receive reimbursement of the CAM examination fee.
