Airborne-OSH16 Day 2 Redux: Solar Impulse, Sun Flyer, Stemme S-12

Also: AEA $$Giveaway$$, LAM Aviation, Able Flight, Jack Pelton On Aero-Medical Reform

Note From The ANN E-I-C (Guy Who Takes The Blame): By the time that you read this, ANN's staff is either on its way home, at home in a semi-comatose state, or has checked at a home for wayward Aviators for a little rest and therapy. But, as we do each year after Oshkosh, we'll be repeating the amazing week, in sequence, over the next few days so you can catch up on all you might have missed -- as we rest up and get ready for the continuation of our regular news programming on the 8th of August. This is probably the last time we can get away with taking a post-OSH break, so we're going to enjoy it as much as we can...

We start our report this morning with something that has very little to do with the EAA AirVenture, but a lot to do with completing a record-setting event that has been more than a year and a half in the making.

It has been announced that Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg have completed their circumnavigation of the globe in an aircraft that uses no fossil fuels and leaves no carbon footprint. Upon landing in Abu Dhabi, the Solar Impulse-2 conclude the journey that began on March 9 2015, and involved a total of 23 days in flight covering 23,240 nautical miles comprised of a 17 leg journey. ANN news editor Tom Patton talks with the Spartan School of Aeronautics about their use of the all-electric Sun-Flyer training airplane that will serve the purpose of training pilots and mechanics. The Aircraft Electronics Association is giving away $1000 every day for five days at EAA AirVenture for ADS-B upgrades. It’s the second day of EAA AirVenture 2016, and here’s part two of the interview between ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, and EAA president Jack Pelton. In this conversation Jim talks politics, and you’ll hear Pelton tell it like it is in regards to third class medical reform and a more simplified aircraft certification system. He says, “We are not there yet, but we have opened the door.” All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
