Firebirds Team Will Replace US Jet
Officials with the OC Air Show
announced this week additions to the performer lineup for the
inaugural event, taking place above the beach and boardwalk in
Ocean City, MD on June 10-11. The show will feature military
aircraft demonstrations, low-altitude flyovers and civilian
aerobatic performances from noon to 3 p.m. both days.
Newcomers to the lineup include the US Coast Guard (USCG), who
will perform a search and rescue demonstration. The demo using a
Sikorsky HH-52A Seaguard helicopter will showcase how the USCG
locates and retrieves people in distress far out at sea, often in
fierce storms and the worst of weather conditions.
Two new civilian acts have also joined the lineup. The Firebirds
will feature two high performance aircraft that combine precision
aerobatics with radical gyroscopic tumbles and on-the-edge head-on
maneuvers. The Firebirds will replace US Jet in the lineup, who had
to cancel due to aircraft maintenance issues. Rob Holland will
perform a solo aerobatic demonstration in his MX-2.
"The US Coast Guard SAR demo adds a totally new facet to our
lineup,” said Bryan Lilley, president of the OC Air Show.
"With this expansion of the lineup we anticipate that the event
will extend past 3 hours, perhaps adding as much as 30 minutes a
day.”
The performances will be visible along the majority of the famed
three-mile boardwalk, creating an inspiring experience for visitors
as they enjoy the hospitality of Ocean City’s beach and
attractions. Interactive displays and exhibits will be open to the
public on the streets surrounding Show Center, located at 16th
Street on the boardwalk.
Free public viewing is available between 14th and 16th streets
on the boardwalk. Premium viewing opportunities and hospitality
chalets will also be available to businesses and public
attendees.
