Touch-Screen FMS/GPS/NAV/COM Offers 'Additional
Capabilities'
Avidyne tells ANN that Multi-Touch capability will be included
with their recently-announced IFD540 GPS/ Navigation/ Communication
system. Multi-Touch allows pilots to gesture using two or more
fingers on the capacitive touch screen to easily scroll and zoom
the map range setting in and out. The IFD540 with Multi-Touch will
be on display in the Avidyne booth (AOPA #1120) this week in
Hartford, Conn.
"In addition to all the great features we announced at the
introduction of the IFD540, Multi-Touch is one of the 'additional
capabilities' we said that we would be rolling out over the next
several months," said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne's Chief Operating
Officer.
"The plug-and-play IFD540 is getting rave reviews for its
innovation and ease of use, and Multi-Touch makes the user
interface even easier for pilots."
"The IFD540 is the result of significant investments in
technology and years of innovation at Avidyne, and customers will
really appreciate its ease of use and pilot-centric operation,"
said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne's President and CEO. "Multi-Touch is just
one example of the many cool features that set the IFD540 apart
from what is currently available in the market. Stay tuned for
more."
The IFD540 is Avidyne's FMS/GPS/NAV/COM, which is the
centerpiece of their newly-announced plug-and-play avionics stack.
The IFD540 is a slide-in replacement for the popular GNS530
navigators, providing powerful navigation, communication, and
multi-function display capability as found in our award-winning
Entegra Release 9 systems in a touch screen, panel-mounted avionics
form factor. The IFD540 with GPS/NAV/COM/FMS and 10-Watt VHF
transmit power has a retail price of $16,995 including tray and
installation kit, and is expected to be available in the second
half of 2012. The 16 Watt transmit power upgrade is $4,995. The
integrated TAWS-B option is an additional $7,995.
