FAA Issues SAIB For Stemme Glider Documentation

Airworthiness Certificate Incorrect For Some Models

The FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) directed to the owners of Stemme Model S10-VT aircraft indicating that the potential of possible incorrect information on the aircraft’s Standard Airworthiness Certificate, FAA Form 8100-2, exists. The FAA has determined that the airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 39.

This SAIB is the result of a field inspector identifying that several standard airworthiness certificates, FAA Form 8100-2, have been issued to Stemme Model S10-VT aircraft with an incorrect category defined in Box 4. Gliders and powered gliders are included within a special class for type and airworthiness certification under 14 CFR 21.17. Issuance of a standard airworthiness certificate for these aircraft in accordance with 14 CFR 21.183 should be in the category of “special class” and not a category of utility or acrobatic. As such, the standard airworthiness certificate should state “glider” in Box 4.

The FAA recommends that owners of Stemme Model S10-VT aircraft request a new standard airworthiness certificate from their local Flight Standards District Office using FAA Form 8130-6, Application for U.S. Airworthiness Certificate. In section II.A., choose a category of “other” and write in “Glider” in the appropriate box.
