Santa Monica Continues To Try To Avoid Grant-Assurance Obligations

NBAA: FAA Should Block City's Latest Request To Dismiss The Part 16 Petition

On Aug. 28, NBAA and several other parties joined in calling upon the FAA to deny the latest move by the city of Santa Monica to side-step grant-assurance obligations involved with the operation of embattled Santa Monica Municipal Airport (KSMO).

The parties' Aug. 28 filing follows a recent request by the city that the FAA dismiss a July 2014 "Part 16" petition from NBAA and other parties for the FAA to clarify that the airport must continue to abide by its grant assurances through August 2023, to ensure vital aviation services and facilities remain intact, given the city's allegations that its grant-assurance obligations expired in June 2014.

The Aug. 28 filing notes that because the city of Santa Monica is maintaining that the airport is now free of its grant-assurance obligations, business aircraft operators and others who rely on the airport's services and facilities, "have been, are, and will continue to be impacted" by the situation.
