Film Now Set For Release In December
The opening of the long-awaited "Top Gun: Maverick" has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The virus has forced the closing of movie theaters across the country, and the Top Gun sequel is one of several movies that will not be released this summer.
Comicbook.com reports that Tom Cruise, who is reprising his role as Maverick in the movie, expressed the disappointment that is being felt by many who have been waiting decades for the sequel. ""I know many of you have waited 34 years. Unfortunately, it will be a little longer. Top Gun: Maverick will fly this December. Stay safe, everyone." he said on Twitter.
According to the studio's official description of the film, Cruise will once again play Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, now a test pilot and "dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka 'Goose.' Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it."
"Top Gun: Maverick" is now slated for release December 23.
