Avidyne Celebrates 25 yrs of Innovation At AirVenture

Avidyne’s President and CEO discusses their past, present, and future directions

At EAA Press Headquarters Monday Morning Avidyne President and CEO Dan Schwinn discussed a host of topics as Avidyne enters their 25 year of supplying Premium Avionics for General Aviation Aircraft. Dan noted it has been a really interesting couple of decades in General Aviation and the next 10 to 20 years are going to be way more interesting.

Dan discussed Avidyne’s historical milestones over the last 25 yrs including the 1st certified integrated flight deck and said they are working on some great products for the future. The passion and understanding of what the market place might comes from the fact that Avidyne is a a bunch of pilots designing products for pilots, noting he uses his Cessna 206 as a commuter from Cape Cod to Hanscom Field. The big announcement was the pairing of the L3 Avionics NGT-9000 Transponder with the Avidyne IFD550 Premium Touch-Screen Aviation GPS and if purchased within the 2 month timeframe of this special promotion, there is $2500 cash back incentive.

In discussing the future of Avionics, Dan noted there is a great deal of interest in Avidyne being a supplier for the E-VTOL-MOD aircraft, which stands for Electric Vertical Take of and Landing Mobility on Demand. With conceptual renderings of these futuristic craft permeating all forms of media, Dan said that they have been in discussion with 40 startup companies in this space of which there are over 100. Dan noted if they are to become a supplier in this space, it may not be what we might think, and that it might be more embedded and not our traditional black box as it might include a dynamic stability system.

The flying machines in this arena have captured the attention of millennial and younger generation as Dan told the assembled press that upon showing his wife and kids the Black Fly his daughters response was “I want to fly one of those” as Dan noted the current young generation would say, “that is my definition of Cool that’s what I want to drive”.
