Hangar In Fort Lauderdale, Florida Raided By DEA

Reason For Search Of World Jet Inc. Not Given

The hangar of World Jet Inc. at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport was searched Monday by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the FBI, and Homeland Security.

World Jet is an aircraft sales and leasing company. The Sun Sentinel newspaper in south Florida reported that no arrests were made in the search, but authorities would make no comment about the investigation other than to say it was drug-related.

The company's registered agent is R.D. Whittington, JR. The daughters of Bill Whittington, allegedly one of the targets of the probe, own the Springs Resort and Spa in Pagosa Springs, CO, which is also part of the investigation, according to a report in the Durango Herald.

The Pagosa Daily Post reports that the Whittington daughters, through their attorney, have denied the DEA's allegations. Eric Loman, a lawyer for the sisters and the resort, said the sisters are "honest members of the Pagosa Springs business community, and any allegation that they or the Springs Resort are involved in any illegal activity is absurd and unfounded.”
