Oregon Commuter Airline Sells Alaska Operations

Wings Of Alaska Acquired By Fjord Flying Services

Portland, Oregon-based SeaPort Airlines has sold its Wings of Alaska division to Fjord Flying Services, an air charter company based in Gustavus, AK.

The Associated Press relays a report from the Juneau Empire which indicates that the sale will be effective Saturday.

Richard Cole, co-owner of of Fjord Flying Services told the paper that the change will be nearly transparent to passengers. He said the "Wings of Alaska" name will continue, but it will operate more as an air taxi service than a scheduled airline.

In a statement, SeaPort president Robert McKinney said that the smaller company will be better able to meet the needs of the communities and customers served by the carrier. "Air service to rural Alaska communities has many unique challenges and aspects to it that contrast significantly with our Lower 48 operations," McKinney said.
