ALPA Responds to Transport Canada's Vaccine Mandate

Ruling Applies To All Federally Regulated Employees, Including Pilots and Other Aviation Workers

Transport Canada announced a vaccine mandate for all federal employees, workers in federally regulated industries (such as pilots, air traffic controllers, mechanics, dispatchers, etc.), and many traveling individuals.

Capt. Tim Perry, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l Canada (ALPA Canada), issued the following statement:

“Since the beginning of Canada's vaccine rollout, ALPA has been clear that every pilot who wants to receive a COVID-19 vaccine should have the opportunity without delay. ALPA has also advocated at the provincial and federal levels that airline pilots should be prioritized because of the essential work they perform.

“ALPA believes that vaccinations are essential to the world's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic but that any vaccination requirements are an issue that must be bargained and ultimately agreed to. The government must consult with all stakeholders, including directly with the unions representing the affected workers as any steps toward vaccination requirements are taken.”
