Airport Is Showcasing Planned Sport Aviation Village
The DeLand (FL) Municipal Airport will be exhibiting inside the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association (LAMA) tent in Paradise City throughout the 2016 Sun 'n Fun International Expo and Fly-In, showcasing DeLand's new Sport Aviation Village and its Preview Show.
Long a major commerce center for the parachute industry, DeLand Municipal Airport is now beginning Phase One construction of a Sport Aviation Village, which it hopes will become a major manufacturing center for recreational aircraft and related components. Phase One will include 6 commercial-use hangars and offices along with 21 T-hangars and storage facilities. Newly-hired Deland Airport Sport Aviation Administrator Jana Filip will have drawings and specifications available at Sun 'n Fun for potential tenants to review.
Filip was recently hired by Deland Airport following her tenure with the Sebring Sport Aviation Expo in nearby Sebring, FL.
The DeLand Airport also plans to host a 2016 Preview Show on November 3-5, 2016, immediately following the NBAA convention in Orlando, Florida. Designed to be small in nature, the 2016 Preview Show will offer people an opportunity to become familiar with the DeLand Airport and the community of DeLand. "Our goal is to create an annual destination event for recreational aircraft enthusiasts from the U.S. and the world," Filip said. "DeLand is a progressive community offering a wide variety of social, cultural, and recreational activities along with a great climate, making it a wonderful location for sport aviation enthusiasts to visit."
During Sun 'n Fun, Filip will be holding a "Name that Show" contest to help create a unique brand for DeLand's annual event.
The author of the winning entry will receive free admission/free exhibit space for the 2016 event. You are invited to stop by the LAMA tent, say hello to Filip, and offer your ideas for the show's name.
