Navy FA/-18 Super Hornet Performances May Be Cancelled

But Navy Officials Say No Final Decision Has Been Made

The U.S. Navy may cancel all remaining appearances of the F/A-18 Super Hornet Demonstration Team at airshows around the country this year, but a report indicating the decision has been made was premature.

The Navy Times reports that a report in the form of a news release was inadvertently posted to the VFA-106 Navy Tac Demo Facebook page that announced in error that "the remainder of the TACDEMO schedule for 2019 has been cancelled. Our dedicated, volunteer, air crew and maintainers must focus their efforts on training the next generation of Super Hornet aviators and flight officers."

But officials from Naval Air Forces said in a prepared statement issued last Thursday said “We constantly look for ways to deliver on that, and we continue to consider specific steps to best manage our resources and our costs,” and that no decision about cancelling the rest of the schedule has been made. The officials said that Naval Aviation is at his highest level of readiness in more than a decade, and "all deploying squadrons are ready to fight."

VFA-106 has five remaining demonstrations on the 2019 schedule that could be cancelled, according to the report.

The Navy will also continue its Legacy Flight program as scheduled at airshows this summer.
