A-10 Pilots Grounded By USAF After Stadium Fly-By

Flew Low Over Bank Of America Stadium During Panthers Practice Game

The U.S. Air Force has grounded four A-10C Thunderbolt pilots after they made a low pass over Bank of America Stadium Monday.

Television station WNCN reports that the jets flew low over several downtown buildings in Charlotte, NC including the stadium, which generated a complaint to the FAA. The Carolina Panthers were involved in a practice game at the time of the overflight.

Charlotte Airport officials at first said the flight was a rehearsal for a fly-by for an upcoming Panther game. But on Tuesday, the FAA said that one of its workers had misrepresented the flight to airport officials.

The Air Force has restricted the flight duties of the pilots involved until an investigation can be completed.
