Aero-TV: Leveraging Avidyne‘s Best Efforts – Sampling The Skills Of The IFD540

The Next-Generation of TRULY Intuitive Avionics

In this video ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell visits with Jared Butson, the director of sales for Avidyne, about their new IFD 540.

The first thing we see a about the IFD 540 is the unique feature of it being a touchscreen system that also includes function switches. This allows the capability of being able to control functions by the touchscreen or, if turbulence makes using the screen difficult, using the push switches reduces the chance for an inadvertent function command.

Butson also mentions that the IFD 540 has been designed as a slide-in replacement for the Garmin 530; all the connections match. Butson says that they are planning for the future by making the IFD 540 Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capable for operating with portable devices. As the video progresses, Butson demonstrates many of the functions and you’ll see the IFD 540 in action.

Butson tells Jim that one pilot with a newly installed system operated it without even using the operating guide and found it intuitive and easy to use. You’ll see these features demonstrated. The smaller version, called the IFD 440, is in the final stages of being readied for production. The IFD 440 is a plug-and-play replacement for the Garman 430.

This is a fast-moving video that gives you a lot of information about the new Avidyne products in a short time.
