Honduran Aid Hits 6 Million Pounds via USAF Airlifts

Denton Program Continues to Make Best of Extra Space

The US Air Force unloaded 12 pallets of humanitarian cargo at a Honduran air base this month, under the long-running Denton Program, a DoD transportation effort.

The program serves a number of functions, often fulfilling humanitarian goals for hot spots around the world, using space available on already scheduled flights. It's a pretty efficient system, overall, with little cost added to trips that are already going to be taken - delivering donated goods, no less. The most recent mission has taken down donated medical equipment, educational materials, hygiene supplies, clothing, footwear, and sewing supplies vital to keep the home front going, handing them over at Soto Cano Air Base . The KC-46A Pegasus was able to drop off 26,000 pounds of freight for organization and dissemination from local nonprofits, which was even added to from other aid groups for a grand total of 35,000 lbs bound for the neediest parts of the country.

"Knowing that we play an active part in bettering people's lives is extremely rewarding," said Captain Triston Dillard, the 612th Air Base Squadron's logistics flight commander. "My team and I are very thankful for the opportunity to be here and to help in any way we can."

"The Denton Program closes the gap between people wanting to help by donating in the United States to those who want to help by distributing in other countries," said Tristan Mohagen with Mission El Ayudante. "For example, these donated supplies will help 30 schools in need within the area."
