ROTAX Increasing TBO on 4-stroke Engines

Certified Advice Should Translate to Experimental Engines

Rotax had good news for attendees at the Freidrichshafen Airshow, which started Thursday in Germany.

Owners of the 912 series certified four-stroke engines will soon be able to access a Service Bulletin that will change the recommended Time Between Overhauls from the current 1200 hours, to 1500 hours.

Certified 914-series owners, perhaps aided by feedback from the Predator program, will also see an increase of 20%, from 1000, to 1200 hours.

Owners of non-certified models of these engines are advised that, under similar maintenance and operation, their engines, too, may be expected to enjoy the longer TBOs.

We hear there are negotiations underway for increasing the TBO of the two-stroke engines, too; since the 2-strokes under consideration are all flying in the experimental categories, the recommendations may be seen as a no-less-welcome breakthrough than the official, certified TBO enhancements announced in Germany.
