Bringing Advanced Jet-A Engines To Two Popular Aircraft Types

DeltaHawk announced it is developing an STC for the Cessna 172 and 182 aircraft models, two of the most popular and commonly used single-engine piston aircraft on the market for training and light transport, respectively. The STC is for the DeltaHawk diesel piston engine that enables pilots to leverage the globally available Jet-A fuel and significantly lower operating costs by an overall 40% including fuel efficiency and simplified maintenance.

The DeltaHawk engine also simplifies operations by eliminating the mixture control and the danger of shock cooling and combined with single-lever control, allow pilots to focus more on aviating and less on engine management. The turbocharged and supercharged design yields exceptional performance at altitudes and a fuel preheat system and integral glow plugs prevent jet-fuel icing and make starting in cold temperatures easier and prolong engine life.

An optional Tanis preheat system also eases cold starts.

In addition to Jet-A the engine also burns Sustainable Aviation Fuels, advancing the industry’s move towards carbon neutral aviation. Its design is engineered with 40% fewer parts that minimizes maintenance and enhances safety compared to comparable engines.

The engine has been demonstrated to burn 35-40% less fuel than avgas engines, providing a cost-effective, high-performance alternative to legacy powerplants for general aviation.

DeltaHawk will make presentations on its engines with Q&A sessions at SUN ‘n FUN 2025 on Wednesday and Thursday April 2-3, at noon to 1:00 pm. The sessions will be run by Aaron Nieto at Forum CFAA-12.

DeltaHawk is accepting pre-orders for the Cessna 172 and 182 for firewall forward engine packages. It is already accepting orders for the Van’s RV-14 and Velocity Twin aircraft.
