afternoon, Boeing conceded that mediated talks with the
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers
failed, without reaching agreement on a new collective bargaining
agreement.
STS-125 Now Scheduled For Liftoff October 10; STS-126, November
12
Confirming what may NASA-watchers saw as a likelihood, on Friday
the space agency announced the adjustment of the target launch
dates for the two remaining space shuttle missions in 2008. Shuttle
Atlantis' STS-125 mission to the Hubble Space Telescope is now
targeted for October 10, while Endeavour's STS-126 supply mission
to the International Space Station has moved to November 12.
Search efforts are underway following the fatal downing of a US
Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter during a training exercise
Thursday night south of Honolulu, HI.

Both In Critical Condition; Plane Impacted Tree Near

Two flight students from the University of Dubuque remain in
critical condition, following the Wednesday afternoon downing of
their Socata TB-20 Trinidad near Cassville, WI.
The results are in following an FAA audit of US airline
compliance with Airworthiness Directives, announced in April... and
the agency says the results are encouraging.
With the
start of the Qantas A380 service scheduled for
October 20, the Australian flag carrier is making terminal changes

First Aerial Alternative Fuel Transfer Between USAF
Aircraft
The F-22 Combined Test Force reached another milestone as an
F-22 Raptor based at Edwards AFB performed aerial refueling using a
synthetic fuel. It is the first time an Air Force aircraft refueled
mid-air using an alternative jet engine fuel.
Rocket Racer Flies Record Seven Times In Four Days
The Rocket Racer has some serious flight time under its wings.
The Rocket Racing League announced Thursday the successful results
of the first seven test flights of the Bridenstine DKNY Rocket
Racer conducted at the Oklahoma Spaceport (OKSP) in Burns Flat.
Aimed At Reducing Risks In Service On Manned Capsule
Aerojet tells ANN it successfully completed a hot-fire testing
program of NASA's Orion Crew Module's 160 lb. thrust
mono-propellant engine. Test program objectives were met by
demonstrating pulse mode operation of the engine at expected Orion
flight conditions.
Spirit Airlines acknowledged Thursday the Air Line Pilots
Association had filed a lawsuit against the airline seeking to
require the Airline to reverse certain work rule and other changes
implemented by the company over the past two months.
Plane Destroyed Following Emergency Landing In Quarry
A two-seat experimental Sadler Vampire made a forced landing in
a rock quarry in Findlay, OH on Wednesday, after reportedly losing
power. The plane was destroyed in a post-crash fire, but we're
happy to say the 24-year-old pilot walked away with minor
injuries.

Free TIS-B, FIS-B Available To Pilots With Equipped Planes
The FAA announced Thursday that pilots flying in aircraft
equipped with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B)
avionics in South Florida now receive free traffic and weather
information on their cockpit displays. This marks the first time
area pilots are able see the same traffic information that's seen
by air traffic controllers.
A 'Hail Mary' proposal from Boeing in hopes of gaining new
orders for its C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft may not be
needed, according to the four-star general in charge of procuring
new cargo planes for the US Air Force.

New Jacksonville Facility May Train Pilots For Chinese
Airlines
Commercial Airline Pilot Training (CAPT) Program announced
Thursday it has received official notification from the General
Administration of Civil Aviation of China granting approval for
CAPT's Cecil campus to train students to fly for airlines in
China.
"I think after anything like this you always look back
afterwards and say that something that seemed to be a problem at
the time really isn't a big deal anymore. Because you just went
through something some people don't walk away from."
Source: Flight instructor Michael Denning, who
safely landed the Beechcraft Bonanza transporting him and two
students to Vermont Wednesday evening after the plane's engine
failed. Denning landed the stricken aircraft on
Interstate 87... bringing the plane down right on the centerline,
and leaving less than three feet between wingtips and guardrails on
either side.
