Centennial Of Naval Aviation Kick-Off Gala Set For San Diego

Program Will Pay Tribute To Achievements Of Naval Aviators

The 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation Foundation has announced its Official Centennial of Naval Aviation Kick-Off Gala in honor of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard's 100th anniversary of flight. The occasion will be celebrated on Saturday, February 12, 2011 onboard the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, CA -- the "Birthplace of Naval Aviation."

The star-studded invitee list includes significant contributors to Naval Aviation's past and present, foundation sponsors, elected officials and leaders in Naval Aviation, both active duty and retired military.

The Kick-Off Gala is part of the weekend-long San Diego Centennial of Naval Aviation Kick-Off Celebration, which will serve as the initiation to a year-long celebration across the United States. "We are kicking off a year-long commemoration of the progress and achievements of Naval Aviation and celebrating the commitments made by hundreds of thousands of Americans over the past century," said Foundation Co-Chairman Rear Admiral John "Mac" McLaughlin, USN (Retired).

The Kick-Off Gala will include a custom video presentation paying tribute to the Centennial of Naval Aviation, guest speakers and a special entertainment performance. "The Kick-Off Gala will be a special night where we come together to reflect on the achievements of the past and embrace the possibilities of the future of Naval Aviation," said Foundation Co-Chairman Major General Bob Butcher, USMC (Retired).
