Aircraft Was Operating In U.S. Airspace When It Was Fired On

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter operating in U.S. airspace near Laredo, TX was fired on from the Mexican side of the border, forcing the pilot to initiate an emergency landing.

The aircraft was flying in support of a mission to intercept drugs coming across the border from Mexico, according to authorities.

Breitbart reports that the incident was confirmed by Border Patrol agent and National Border Patrol Council Local 2455 President Hector Garza, who said he received unofficial reports on this matter that indicate the information provided to Breitbart Texas by an unnamed federal agent is "accurate."

The incident occurred in a subdivision of Laredo, TX. A source told Breitbart Texas that it was a "well-coordinated operation" on both sides of the border. No arrests were made in connection with the incident, as the participants scattered.

At least five shots were fired, and three hit the aircraft with one striking the cabin. A body armor vest placed on the floor of the aircraft was credited with saving the life of one person on board the aircraft. Agents routinely place their vests on the floor of their aircraft for just that purpose, as gunfire always comes from beneath the helicopters.
