Classic Aero-TV: The Greater Great Lakes - Flying A Modernized Classic Biplane

From 2015: Stunning Update Of A Classic Biplane May Also Be Today's Best Aerobatic Trainer

During the last AOPA regional Fly-in event of 2014, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, had the opportunity to take a flight in a new Great Lakes biplane.

In this video he talks with Peter Bower, the president of the WACO Aircraft Corporation. Waco has now added the Great Lakes to their line of aircraft.

The original Great Lakes Aircraft Company started in 1929 with a great little airplane that was especially designed for the airborne sportsman. They only built 264 airplanes, but the design was so good that it has continued to live on. Now, the Waco aircraft Corporation is producing their updated version of the Great Lakes biplane.

As you tune-in to Jim and Peter talking about their experiences in the Great Lakes, you’ll see lots of great video of the airplane in action. You’ll also hear about the refinements Waco Aircraft has made to the Great Lakes that makes a delightful airplane even better. As Jim put it, “the wider backseat now makes it Bubba capable.”

This video combines some great videography with an old-fashioned case of two pilots hangar flying about an airplane they both love.
