Iconic Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Publishes Annual Appeal

Historic Site Seeks $300,000 as It Enters 67th Year of Operation

The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, a renowned living museum of vintage aviation, has launched its annual fundraising appeal. It is seeking $300,000 to support operations and growth as it enters its 67th year.

Funds from the appeal will address critical operational costs, including lighting, heating, insurance, and security—expenses not covered by restricted donations. The board highlighted the importance of this funding, stating that “without these necessary costs the Aerodrome cannot continue to educate and entertain countless guests each year as we enter our 67th year of operation.”

The Aerodrome has faced challenges in recent years, including adverse weather in 2023-24 and the loss of longtime contributor Brian Coughlin, impacting revenue and the community.

This year’s appeal includes a matching donation opportunity from the Disosway Foundation, which will match contributions up to $100,000. Funds raised will support the Aerodrome’s CFOS Endowment Fund, which sustains ongoing restoration and operational projects.

Notable initiatives for the new year include adding the Stinson Detroiter to the rides program, allowing for expanded offerings during the spring and fall seasons. Structural restorations on the Hanriot are also underway, along with an engine overhaul for the Bleriot and finalizing the Fokker Dr 1 triplane’s wings.

The Aerodrome is also investing in enhancing visitor experiences, with plans to improve programs such as the Night Shoot, Barnstormer Camp, Learning Series, Flight Nights, and vintage-themed activities like Vintage Baseball. Infrastructure upgrades, including runway regrading, IT and ticketing improvements, and enhanced security systems, are also in the works.

Founded with just a few antique airplanes, Old Rhinebeck has grown into a world-class institution with a mission to preserve, restore, and fly the aircraft of the Pioneer, WWI, and the Golden Ages of Aviation. It features over 80 vintage aircraft, antique automobiles, and motorcycles, along with a museum open May through October and airshows from mid-June through mid-October.
