CT Airport Neighbors Angry At Helicopter Noise

Protesting Things That Go Thump, Thump, Thump In The Night

Angry over what they say is constant noise from helicopters flying overhead, members of the Northeast Greenwich Association (CT) want to change the way helicopters fly into and out of Westchester County Airport.

The problem is decidedly complex. Westchester is a key destination for corporate aircraft, many of which carry hotshots from Fortune 500 companies. Further, the TSA has ordered helicopter surveillance of airports in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. The TSA won't say whether one of the airports under aerial surveillance is Westchester County, but neighbors say they're up there.

There is a noise abatement route for helicopters at Westchester County, but it's not mandatory, of course. Members of the neighborhood association are trying to raise money for a noise study and have made their concerns known to the FAA.
