Classic Restored Cub Offered For Sale In Texas For $185K (??!!)

Owner Calls The Airplane 'Museum Quality'

OK, normally we don't do these kinds of ads as news, but this caught our eye for a couple of reasons; the airplane is gorgeous, and the price reflects that.

The ad popped up on the Controller website. The 1946 J-3 Cub is described as having undergone a $200,000 restoration, bringing it to "factory new" condition and "ready for Oshkosh."

The airplane has less than 6 hours in its logbooks since the restoration was complete. The owner, who is identified only as "Pin" in Irving, TX, says that there are "new floorboards, stringers, rudder pedals, aileron and elevator pulleys, all cables replaced with stainless steel, new trim jack screw, trim pulleys, trim indicator, mixture control cable, throttle cable, cabin heat cable, carb heat cable, fuel control cable, foreword seat frame, instrument panel, skylight, windshield, left and right windows, canvas baggage, seat slings, boot cowl, Scott brake diaphragms, flexible brake lines, forward and rear liner tubes, throttle levers, tail wheel springs and all hardware new as needed, forward and aft wing spars, leading and trailing edges, tip bows, gear legs, bungee shock cords, tires, stabilizers, and wiring."

The asking price for the Cub is $185,000. And while that is higher than a lot of new LSAs, it is, after all, a vintage cub. If you've got some spare change jingling in your jeans ... you could be flying this classic.
