Parrot Holds Up Plane

That Pretty Much Says It All...

As if air travelers didn't have enough to worry about... now comes word a parrot recently stopped a plane from taking off.

How, you may be asking? The British tabloid The Sun reports the parrot -- named Polly, of course -- escaped from her box, and then began nibbling on frightened passengers.

Apparently, the parrot managed to free herself while perched on her owner's lap as the Aurigny Air Services plane taxied for take-off for a recent flight from Alderney to Southampton. The spooked bird then started circling passengers’ heads, and nipping their shoulders.

The plane was delayed ten minutes as crew emptied the cabin, scooped up the grey and white parrot — and put the parrot back in her box.

"It was a bit of unscripted in-flight entertainment," said duty officer Steve Roberts, who added Polly’s owner was taking her away on holiday and he thinks she just got a bit excited.

"We deal with all sorts of things here," he said.

An unidentified passenger told the Sun that while the incident had its element of humor... it could have been a serious problem.

"To be honest, it was very funny looking back after the event," he said. "But if the flight had been in mid-air and the bird had been pecking the pilot, it could have been dangerous."
