'Top Gun' Sequel Delayed To 2020

Now Set For Release In June Of Next Year

Paramount Studios has delayed the release of "Top Gun: Maverick" until June of next year.

USA Today reports that the news was announced last Wednesday. Early production of the movie began this spring, and is now set to resume in September.

The studio said in a statement that the extra time will be used to work out logistics for presenting flight sequences using new planes and technology. Actors Jon Hamm and Ed Harris have also reportedly been added to the cast in unspecified roles.

One of the new pilots in the cast is the son of Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, who had been Maverick's Radar Intercept Officer in the original movie. The sequel will also reunite Maverick and Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, played by Val Kilmer.

You'll just have to wait a little longer before the movie is "coming soon to a theater near you."
