Research Shows Unmanned Air Vehicles Market Worth $22 Billion

Figure Includes Aircraft, Ground Equipment, And Payloads

In a new report titled "Unmanned Vehicles: The Market for UAV Reconnaissance Systems," MarketResearch.com says the market for unmanned air vehicles is worth an estimated $21.9 billion over the next 10 years. This figure includes production of all air vehicles, ground control equipment, and payloads through 2020. The most significant providers of these systems will be located in the United States. They are: Northrop Grumman, General Atomics, and AAI.

The report says the unmanned aircraft system market has seen a remarkable transformation over the last eight years. More change has occurred in this market in that time than in all the previous decades. Such a radical change can only occur in the wake of some equally climactic event. That event was the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the subsequent global war on terror launched by the United States and its allies. Prior to these events, the size of the unmanned vehicle market had been growing, but at an almost glacial pace. This market segment is now one of the hottest tickets on the world's military and paramilitary scene, and even the FBI, CIA, NSA and other world intelligence agencies are recognizing the value of unmanned aerial systems in fighting crime and terrorism.

The report studies the market for UAV reconnaissance systems from multiple angles. The company says the analyst first conducts a bottom-up, micro-level study to develop 10-year unit and value of production forecasts for each program or system, and then utilizes a top-down, macro-level approach to produce a forecast of each manufacturer's overall percent market share, again in terms of both units and value.
