What's A Black Hawk Helicopter Engine Get You In China?

32-Months In Prison, Roughly

A 36-year old South Korean man convicted of selling Black Hawk helicopter engines to China will spend nearly three years in a federal prison for his efforts. Kwonhwan "Howard" Park was sentenced in a New Haven, CT, federal court on Tuesday.

Park was arrested in April, 2004, while allegedly boarding a flight at Dulles International Airport while carrying parts for night vision goggles in his luggage.  He was convicted in November of buying two S-70 engines from Helicopter Support International and sending them to China.

Another South Korean suspect in the case is still at large.

"The Arms Control Export Act exists to prevent sensitive American military technology and weapons from ending up in the wrong hands," US Attorney Kevin J. O'Connor told the Connecticut Post.
