Person Who Allegedly Started Chicago ATC Fire Admits Smoking Pot

Described Himself As 'Stoned And Nervous' On Facebook

The man who is accused of starting a fire at the FAA radar center in Chicago told the world he was "stoned and nervous" minutes before authorities say he started the blaze.

He posted that phrase on Facebook.

CBS News reports that Brian Howard, a Navy veteran who had been employed by Harris Corp. for the past eight years, had smoked marijuana before setting the fire in an attempt to take his own life. Howard, a contract employee involved in upgrading the facility, described in detail on the social media site how the fire "...should not take a large toll on the air space since the comms should be switched to the alt location."

His attorney said his client "deeply regrets" the inconvenience that his actions caused.

Howard had been told by Harris Corp that he was being transferred from Chicago to Hawaii, and he was said to be unhappy with that decision.

If convicted, he will face a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
