Best of OSH25: Florida Tech Houses ACI’s Codes Of Conduct

Evans Library Houses Full Collection Of Behavioral Guidance

Florida Institute of Technology’s Evans Library and the Aviators Code Initiative announced a new affiliation that will permanently house the remarkable collection of ACI’s aviation best practices including the Aviators Model Code Of Conduct in the library’s online Scholarship Repository. The announcement was made at this week’s EAA AirVenture airshow and fly-in at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The principles in Aviators Model Code of Conduct were developed by dedicated teams of aviation professionals, including Florida Tech’s College of Aeronautics Professor Emerita Donna Wilt, and refined through decades of operational insights and peer review from trainers, professional pilots, regulators, and researchers.

It offers practical guidance for the gamut of aviation practitioners: aviators, aviation maintenance technicians, flight instructors, designated pilot examiners, glider aviators, gyroplane pilots, helicopter pilots, light sport aviators, seaplane pilots, student pilots and UAS pilots.

Professor Wilt said, “Pilot conduct, no matter the aircraft they are operating, impacts the entire aviation community, including its safety culture. Codes of conduct can help achieve new levels of proficiency, and as guidelines adaptable to each pilot and organizational need, the ACI’s various codes are powerful tools to help both professionals and non-professionals across the aviation industry.”

Michael Baum, founder and member of the ACI’s Permanent Editorial Board said, “This collaboration ensures enduring access to the aviation community's most trusted behavioral guidance. Florida Tech’s commitment to science, innovation, and industry leadership makes them an ideal steward for these essential documents. We are truly grateful.”

John Deaton, Dean of the College of Aeronautics said, “Florida Tech prepares global leaders in aviation, engineering and science, business and more, all committed to advancing knowledge and addressing the needs of industry and society with integrity and respect. The university’s mission and core values align seamlessly with ACI’s vision of fostering safety and professionalism in aviation and we are honored to host this collection.”

The complete ACI collection including the Aviators Codes of Conduct and supporting materials are now available via the Florida Tech Evans Library’s Scholarship Repository on the school’s website.
