"Unsustainable Trajectory"
NASA's Human Spaceflight Commission, better known as the
Augustine Commission after its chairman Norman Augustine (pictured,
below), has released its final report for the White House, and the
outlook for the future of government-funded human spaceflight is
fairly bleak.
NASA has completed a review of the Ares I-X development rocket's
readiness for its flight test and selected Tuesday, October 27, as
the official launch date. Liftoff is scheduled for 0800 EDT from
NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
World Aviation Authorities Agree To Reduce "Greenhouse Gas
Emissions" And Increase Fuel Efficiency
The FAA led a U.S. delegation in recent meetings at the
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, which
resulted in an agreement that will guide the global aviation
community as it tackles the challenge of climate change.
Adds Revised True Flight Aerospace Critical Service
Bulletin
The FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin
(SAIB) for True Flight Aerospace (Grumman American) Model AA-5
airplanes. The bulletin addresses an issue concerning the
horizontal stabilizer forward spar attachment and surrounding
structure in the aft fuselage area.
Raytheon Airline Aviation Services Features IDS Upgrade In
World Tour Demonstrator
Hawker Beechcraft Services (HBS) announced Tuesday that it has
reached an agreement with Raytheon Airline Aviation Services (RAAS)
to upgrade its Beechcraft 1900D demonstrator with Rockwell Collins
Pro Line 21 Integrated Display System (IDS). This marks the first
customer for this upgrade through HBS.
The aerospace school at the University of North Dakota suspended
flight operations for a day after a series of takeoff and landing
incidents at Grand Forks International Airport. Al Palmer, Director
of Flight Operations for the university, said the latest incident
involved a Piper Seminole twin which made a gear-up landing.
"EU ETS is coming and operators need to ensure they are
aware of the requirements for compliance. A failure to prepare
could have serious consequences for operators flying into or out of

When pondering the future of human spaceflight, the
possibilities, it would seem, are endless. Until reality rears its
ugly head. While The Augustine Commission report is not
pessimistic, it is realistic about what the future holds for man in
space, and what it might cost to keep us there.
