President Bush Orders Improvements To GPS For Civilian Use
President Bush has signed a new policy that guarantees the
availability and reliability of GPS for civilian use. And despite
some exaggerated press reports, there is no imminent threat that
GPS will be shut down.
The FAA may be able to do what the AOPA and pilots throughout
Chicagoland haven't done yet -- make the Windy City pay for the
destruction of Meigs Field.
How close is United Airlines to falling into the Pit of
Financial Despair?
Real close, according to the airline itself. And if that happens,
United says, its employees, the airline industry and the public at
large will suffer.
Sean O'Keefe arrived at NASA with a commitment to financial

Mechanics And Avionics Technicians Prepare To Compete
The Great Lakes International Aviation Conference, announced
today that the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA)
will hold their regional Aviation Maintenance Olympics at the Great
Lakes Aviation Conference. The conference will be held January 20th
thru 22nd in Lansing, Michigan.Aviation mechanics and avionics
technicians will showcase their skills and professionalism in both
individual and team competitions.

Civil Aircraft Agreement Opens New Dimension In Long-Standing
Relationship
Thales says it's reinforced its position in the Russian
aerospace market by signing a protocol with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft
Company to provide the development and integration of Thales' full
avionics suite on board the Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) airplane.
The protocol, signed in Moscow, outlines just how the two companies
will interact in the construction of the RRJ and includes a
contract of around 70 million euros for a first batch of
equipment.

In an effort to provide hands-on educational opportunities to
area students, DFW International Airport joins forces with the
Federal Aviation Administration and American Airlines to host the
first-ever Aviation and Transportation Career Expo. This year's
Expo is themed "Get Moving in the Right Direction--Non-Stop
Success" and is the first large scale event created to allow first
through twelfth grade students in North Texas to receive an
introduction to potential careers in aviation and
transportation.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University space physicist James
Wanliss has received the National Science Foundation's most
prestigious award for new faculty members, the Faculty Early Career
Development award. The grant recognizes and supports the early
career-development activities of teacher-scholars who are most

Charles B. Chitwood has been name the new Deputy Director at the
Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. Chitwood will
succeed Rex Geveden who recently became NASA's Chief Engineer at
its headquarters in Washington, DC.
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) announces that
it has revised and expanded its Professional Development Program
(PDP) objectives, bringing the total number of objectives to 30.
The changes were made in order to align PDP more closely with the
NBAA Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) Program, NBAA's formal
certification program for current and aspiring flight department
managers. The association now seeks new educational providers to
develop courses that meet the new PDP objectives.
