The Lancair Kit Company fixed gear Legacy factory demonstrator,
N359L (shown below), went down in Madras OR, Monday, with the
loss of the two persons aboard. Confirmed on board were Kevin
Roberts, 25, a Lancair Kit Company Sales Associate and Darren
Sulka, 34.
The crew of a US Navy C-2 Greyhound knew it was going to be a
bad day just as soon as they departed NAS Norfolk Monday. Carrying
25 people, the aircraft suffered a gear failure that became
apparent immediately. It was up to the crew to save themselves and
their passengers.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill must continue to
operate Horace Williams Airport for the public and the school's
Area Health Education Center's (AHEC) Medical Air Operations for at
least another year thanks to language AOPA supported in the state's
House budget bill. The language survived House-Senate deliberations
to make it into the final budget that was signed into law Saturday
afternoon.

all Spanish soldiers, were discovered dead Tuesday after their

Aviation Experts Puzzled Over Events Leading To Greek
Tragedy
Aviation experts in the US say they're puzzled over the crash of
a Helios Airways 737-300 near Athens Sunday. Specifically, they're
wondering how something less than a catastrophic depressurization
incident could have incapacitated the flight crew, but apparently
not everyone aboard the aircraft.

The second ME262 Project fighter jet flew Monday, August 15,
2005 in Everett, WA. The aircraft, known as Tango Tango, was flown
without incident over Paine Field by test pilot Wolfgang Czaia.

But Union Remains Concerned About Maintaining Schedule During
Strike
Last-ditch negotiations between Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq:NWAC)
and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) began today
amid the carrier's stated concerns about maintaining its flight
schedule during a strike that looms on August 20.
Western Aircraft says it's approved plans to expand its current
FBO facilities in Boise, ID. The current 1,450 sq ft building will
be replaced with a spacious 3,600 sq ft facility. Construction of
the new facility is scheduled to begin during September of this
year, with the completion expected in February of 2006.
Executive Jet Management (EJM), the leading provider of aircraft
management and charter services worldwide, announced the addition
of Terry Doehling to its aircraft management sales team.
"A strike is only five days away now. For the sake of the flying
public and the company we helped build, we hope Northwest will
finally take the negotiating process seriously and stop proposing
terms the airline knows have zero chance of being approved by our
members."
Source: AMFA National Leader O.V. Delle-Femine on
the prospect of a strike against Northwest Airlines. While
Northwest promises no break in the schedule, Delle-Femine says
that's probably impossible.
