official, quoted by the Canadian Press newspaper, on the furor
surrounding the government's plan to purchase new military aircraft
from countries such as the US and India, instead of homegrown
businesses such as Bombardier. The plan -- which the government
states is due to the specific types of aircraft needed, most of
types Canadian manufacturers don't build -- has been placed on
hold pending the next election in order to stem the political
backlash to the ruling party.
