Private security companies currently handle personal
identification checks at US airports. If officials with the
Transportation Security Administration have their way, however,
those jobs will be soon occupied by TSA uniforms -- they just have
to talk Congress into paying for it.
An Ilyushin-76 cargo plane that had delivered supplies to
Ugandan peacekeepers in the war-torn Somali capital of Mogadishu
was shot down on takeoff Friday. The fate of the 11 people onboard
is unknown, although local news reports say the entire crew was
killed.
Here's the other side of the age-old
homeowners-against-those-noisy-airplanes debate. Officials with
Florida's Gainesville Regional Airport are making their own noise,
about a 1,200-home development planned at the end of its main

screenings -- after Delta Air Lines baggage handlers were caught smuggling guns and drugs through Orlando
International Airport -- now comes word the agency
should perhaps be screening some of its employees, too.
