Engines And Additional Services Valued At More Than $450 Million
Ethiopian Airlines ordered eight GE90-115B engines to power its four Boeing 777 Freighters. The engines will be added to an existing 12-year TrueChoice Flight Hour agreement for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of Ethiopian Airlines' GE90 engine fleet. The engine order and expanded services agreement are valued at more than $450 million list price and over the life of the service agreement.

"GE Aviation is proud to power, service and support Ethiopian Airlines' growing Boeing 777 aircraft fleet," said Bill Millhaem, general manager of the GE90 engine program at GE Aviation. "The GE90 engine has proven itself in the aviation industry as one of the most reliable widebody engines with more than 70 million flight hours and 10 million cycles since entering service in 1995, and this order demonstrated Ethiopian Airlines' continued confidence in the engine/aircraft combination."
The GE90 engine family powers all Boeing 777 models and is the exclusive powerplant on the 777-300ER, -200LR and Freighter. The engine features several technology firsts, including carbon fiber composite front fan blades, the world's largest front fan at 128 inches in diameter and the world-record setting thrust of 127,900 pounds during certification testing. The dual annular combustor emits no more than 40 percent of the hydrocarbons allowed by today's international standards. In addition, today's GE90-115B engines have been enhanced to reduce fuel burn by 3.6 percent from the 2000 launch specifications.
Snecma of France and IHI Corporation of Japan are revenue-sharing participants in the GE90 program.
